Software Engineer
Salary - Up to £45,000 Location – Portsmouth The Client Our client is the world leader in marine electronics develops and manufactures the most comprehensive range of electronic equipment for the recreational boating and light commercial marine markets. The Role The main purpose of the role is to carry out C++ Software Development activities for Multi-Function Display products under the technical guidance of the Team Leader. The other duties are as follows: •Produce software analysis, software design, C++ coding, software testing and documentation in line with the project requirements. •Participate in preparing all specifications and documentation relating to a given product. •Coordinate and conduct peer reviews of team tasks. •Mentoring and supporting more junior SW engineers. •Take responsibility for own tasks/deliverables •Maintain strong departmental and inter-departmental communications. •Keep in touch with the external environment - emerging technologies, technical innovations, changes in design practices and up to date tools. •Competitor awareness - be aware who the main competitors are and be aware of the products/features they offer. •Mentoring of more junior engineers. Opportunities to technically leader specific areas of software. The Candidate Formal Education/Qualifications required: BSc/BEng in Software Engineering or similar discipline with at least a 2:1 honours Good standard of A levels or equivalent Experience: Strong experience in C++ design and development of software components. Strong experience in developing software for complex multi-threaded object oriented systems through the complete software lifecycle. Experience of developing User Interface Infrastructure for cross platform developments. Experience of 2D and 3D graphics rendering in a cross platform environment, e.g. OpenGL Knowledge/Skills: C++ programming Object Oriented Design (e.g. UML) User Interface and Graphics Design and Development Software development processes and tools Good communication skills Open GL Additional relevant skills: Linux Embedded systems Multi-threaded programming/RTOS Network Protocols 8.15 – 5.00 p.m – Monday to Thursday 8.15 – 1.00 p.m – Friday Keywords: Software Engineer, C++ Software Development, IT, software testing, 2D and 3D graphics |
